Project Concept

The client approached us with an idea to create a service that streams a drawing model to remote manufacturing equipment while protecting the drawing from copying and reproduction. If a user purchases a single use, they will only produce one unit using that drawing on the remote equipment. The model, treated as intellectual property, will be protected by the special service that encrypts the file and limits the possibility of reuse.

Even though the idea seemed unrealistic to the project manager from the client’s side, we have developed a solution and tested ROS’s first version at the Mechatronics Innovation Lab. This organization confirmed the success of the technology and provided a recommendation letter. Currently, the MVP development phase is underway for market application. Investor and partner search is ongoing.

Project Solves

The project solves several issues, such as file protection concerns for model transmissions to remote equipment. The service helps reduce costs for shipping and customs clearance of parts that can be manufactured locally, solution helps reduce carbon footprint. If equipment is available nearby, you can rent the model and manufacture the part, saving time on receiving the details from another country.

Additionally, it reduces environmental impact as digital model transmission eliminates physical transportation. For example, you locate a model owner in Korea and manufacture the model the next day in Europe.

The service also helps equipment owners receive more orders from local retail customers. For manufacturers, it reduces the need for storing parts in warehouses; you can simply sell the digital model, from which the buyer will locally produce a single unit.
